About the desk
Our Travel Method
We write for independent visitors who want to arrive prepared, not for gadget enthusiasts. Every guide starts with a task you need to complete, then explains the tools that help.

How we check what we write
Our writers travel regularly through Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Southeast Asia. We install the eSIMs, tap the transit cards, use the ticket machines and pay at the counters we describe. Where we cannot test something directly, we rely on official sources such as transit operators, government travel portals and providers' own documentation, and we say so.

Why we stay independent
We do not accept payment from carriers, app developers, card companies or rental firms to include or rank them. When we name a product, such as Airalo, Papago or Pocketalk, it is because travellers commonly use it, not because we endorse it over alternatives. Curious Button Range is not affiliated with any provider mentioned on this site.
How we write
We use plain language and explain steps without assuming technical confidence. We separate what applies everywhere from what depends on your destination, your device or a provider's current terms, and we flag those dependencies clearly in caveat notes.
Travel technology changes quickly. If you find something out of date, please tell the desk; corrections from readers are one of our most valuable sources.
